It’s the party that brings out the bears, cubs, otters and their admirers and friends. No it’s not an ‘Animals of Farthing Wood’ reunion, it’s one of Europe’s most travelled bear parties, Energy Bears, and this weekend it comes to London for its fourth birthday. Special guest DJ Dmitry Tlove plays alongside Micky Galliano and Rob White, whilst DJ JusDiz and Rob C play the front room. We’re so excited that we got in touch with the guys to find out more about this birthday bash…
How did Energy Bears begin?
Energy Bears started in Barcelona in 2008 and the first event was held in London, at the very popular Vauxhall nightspot: Barcode. They’ve supported us right up to this day.
What sets Energy Bears apart from other bear clubs?
Energy Bears of course has an element of the bear. It is a constantly evolving community, but we also are open to guys who love to admire bears and also their friends and girlfriends. It encompasses a very large & friendly community.
How would you describe it to an Energy Bears virgin?
To an Energy Bears virgin we’d just say, come along, enjoy the music and the smiling people. The music reflects the happiness.
Energy Bears has travelled across Europe. What have been some of the biggest parties you’ve hosted?
The biggest party would have to be Rome in 2009 with an audience of over 7000, followed closely by events in the UK such as Summer Rites this year, a large warehouse event in Birmingham and we also took it to Spain to the Costa Del Sol six times. The Spanish certainly know how to party and we gave them a helluva party.
Tell us about the birthday at Barcode. You have a guest DJ Dmitry Tlove…
The Birthday party will be Barcode with DJ Dimitry, who has DJed at various places, such as Circuit Festival, Barcelona.
And there’s a live performance from Ben Statham and Matteo Valentine. What can we expect?
The live performances will be popular. Normally we don’t have live sex shows at Energy Bears, but seeing as it is the birthday then why not? I am sure the guys will do a horny job!
