Rainbow International Fund is a charity that helps to empower LGBT rights activists and organisations working in countries in which minority populations face criminalisation and persecution. Founded in 2013 by Paul Penny, they are devoted to promoting the human rights of LGBT people worldwide.

LGBT activists and organisations struggling with funding can apply to RIF for grants. Recent recipients include Sexual Minorities Uganda, Out and Proud Diamond Group, and Ugandan refugees. Grants tend to go to smaller organisations that have limited resources. These beneficiaries use the funds for a multitude of purposes, such as putting Pride events, protesting oppressive legislation, or escaping oppressive environments, such as the Ugandans fleeing the country after the signing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in 2014.

Rainbow is staffed completely by volunteers and relies on donations and affiliations with trade unions for funds. You can donate directly to them or fundraise through sponsored events, which they will help you with.
