QX meets…Sindri Salad

Superstar DJ Sindri Salad is fresh off the private jet from LA. He’s got ‘Overpowered’ by Roisin Murphy playing, he’s got a flute of champagne, and he’s storming down Curtain Road to bring YOU the best music ever!

He’s in touched down in town to DJ at one of London’s hottest exports DADDY ISSUES! We asked him about his music, his vibes and Katy Perry’s pink wig.

Hey Sindri! So tell us a bit about yourself!

I’m a queer DJ and performance artist residing in LA. I’m a California native who began the limelit journey into nightlife in my early 20s in San Francisco. I throw parties, drag shows, undergrounds and overgrounds, and I’m an avid user of the “rainbow railroad!” Which is a term my friends and I use for being a traveling artist who gets to party with other queers all over the world.

What’s LA like? Is it glam?

Yeah LA’s just as glam as you see on TV. It’s a megalopolis of glam meets hood. Ritzy and rough. A spread out vast land of starving actors, rich and famous, WeHo gays, alternaqueers, industry queens, beach bums, plastic surgery victims, die hard natives, and really rad artists who are creating a renaissance right now.

Have you ever met Katy Perry’s pink wig? If not, what’s been your best celeb encounter?

Nope, no wigs of Katy Perry in my experience. But celeb encounters can be pretty common in LA, and depending on the situation you can totally gag when it happens or you can be really cool about it. After-partying with Peaches in Palm Springs was pretty rad. We ended up singing dirty versions of Christmas carols around a fire pit, which was hilarious. But my favorite celeb encounter, and I’ve said this before in interviews, was throwing Róisín Murphy a wrap party at the end of her US tour and hanging with her in 2016. And then partying with her again when she came for another show the following year on 4/20!

Have you ever heard of Kim Petras? We love her.

I hadn’t heard of her but I just looked her up. She’s definitely got that Paris Hilton appeal. I think it’s amazing and really important the LGBTQ+ community keep visibility in mainstream media. I say get it gurl, keep it up.

What would you say is the most important thing happening in the LGBTQ community right now?

Once again, it’s the visibility. There are so many shows and movies being made with queer characters and narratives. It’s creating conversation and normalizing our presence in the world. Which is something I think we really need right now in today’s current political climate. But of course, we’re always gonna be 100 times more fabulous.

Who is your favourite person in the world?

That’s a tough one to narrow down to just one person, and I’m not gonna go down a list of faves. But I’ve always said that if I ever had to be stuck in a bunker in post-apocalyptic times, I’d wanna be stuck with Amy Sedaris. She’d have me laughing right into the end of the world.

What are you binge-watching?

The Handmaids Tale. The Mick. Schitt’s Creek. Saturday Night Live. The View. And I’m constantly re-watching old episodes of Strangers With Candy. (once again, Amy Sedaris)

What’s your HANGOVER MEAL of choice?

Indian food actually. I know it may seem a bit heavy for a hangover, but I love it so much that it’s comfort food to me. When I’ve been working really hard and wanna treat myself on a Friday I hit up an Indian buffet. And it’s always my birthday dinner choice. So when I’m hungover and I need a friendly, familiar comfort I order Indian. I can’t wait to try some here in London!

How did you get involved with Daddy Issues?

I first got hooked up with the Daddy Issues crew when they brought the party to LA. I’ve dj’d their parties there quite a bit and me and Borja have become friends. In fact he was in LA just this past weekend and we had a girls night at my place. Made dinner, watched movies, and had a little dj session in my living room.

What can we expect from you on the night?

I’m really excited to play Daddy Issues here in London. It’s my first time ever visiting London too. So I’m really pulling out all the dance floor bangers. I’m ready to have fun and sweat it out with you all nice and proper!
