We love a good outing to the theatre here at QX in between the hardcore partying and tweeting…it keeps us cultured, it keeps us informed and it’s a nice way to make sure you did something creative and constructive with your week.

Plus, supporting LGBT theatre really makes a difference and above all can be a lot of fun!

So this week, Alexis Gregory (the amazing gay playwright who did Slap at Stratford East, and Sex/Crime with The Glory) is putting on a play called Riot Act at The King’s Head Theatre on Upper St.

What’s it about? Riot Act is a one-man show, performed by the gorgeous Alexis himself, as he embodies three different gay activists from different points in history .. based on hilarious and moving interviews that he conducted himself.

One of the interviews, simply referred to as ‘Michael’ was a 17 year old boy on the night of the Stonewall Riots. Now and old man, he re-tells exactly how the drama unfolded on that famous night.

Anyone who’s seen the film 120 BPM will enjoy the section of Riot Act that is all about 1980s AIDS activists who pulled radical stunts in London with the group Act Up, blocking the traffic and getting arrested and re-arrested.

Riot Act is this week only at The King’s Head as part of their queer season. It’s a lovely intimate venue on Upper St, with a pub attached to the front .. perfect for date night! Get tickets here.
