A typically 2019 thing happened earlier when our Prime Minister Theresa May tweeted about Drag Race – and by “typical” we just mean “fucking nuts” because that’s what 2019 seems to be shaping up as.

Theresa’s tweet was to congratulate Ben Tye, who won the UK’s first ever charity drag pagaent, Miss Drag UK, raising money for Sands UK.

“Must admit I haven’t had the chance to catch up on @RuPaulsDragRace,” tweeted Theresa. “But wishing Ben all the best in raising money for a great cause.”

The tweet of course immediately went viral, with hundreds of responses, including Drag Race Season Ten winner Aquaria, who pulled no punches in criticising Theresa.

“Honestly thanks for your support but no thanks,” she said, tweeting at the Prime Minister. “Get your policies together and then feel comfortable enjoying our art. Mess.”

In the immortal words of Emily Thornberry – well there we are.
