Submissions open for month-long Pride in London queer art exhibition ‘Fifty-Two’

Pride in London queer art

If you’ve been to a fair share of exhibitions here in London over the past year, you’ll know that queer art is all the rage. From Kiss My Genders‘ take over of the Hayward Gallery last year, to an upcoming meditation on masculinity at the Barbican Centre, it’s everywhere. In celebration of this moment, Pride in London will be casting a spotlight on up-and-coming queer artists. An exhibition titled ‘Fifty-Two’, the number of years since the Stonewall uprising, will feature fifty-two works of art from emerging artists.

Submissions are open to all queer artists, both established and emerging, looking to include a diverse range of queer perspectives. The exhibition will be curated by David Hodge (Miss Dusty O), who’ll be selecting the 52 qualifying works that celebrate LGBTQ+ identities.

Speaking about the exhibition Thomas Wales, head of Festival and Year Round Events at Pride in London, shared:

“For the first time, we will be running a month-long programme as the heart of the Festival – celebrating 52 years of amazing queer expression… We wish to shine the light onto our community and show the world what the diversity of expression is from within the LGBT+ community.”

Applications are now open (opened 15th February), and hopefuls can submit their applications through the Pride in London website. A panel of judges will then be sending on 104 submissions on to Hodge, who’ll be choosing the top 52 from the crop.

The resulting works will be exhibited for an entire month. The deadline for entering your submission is Wednesday, 15th April.
