RuPaul’s Drag Race star Charlie Hides has flipped quarantine hell on its head with Isolation Bingo. Broadcasting every Sunday evening on Facebook, the show has already accrued a loyal following that lap up the high campery. We pinged Charlie to find out more…
Hey Charlie, how are you adapting to lockdown life?
Holding up as well as can be expected. I’m fortunate to have a good sized garden, and James [Charlie’s partner] and Colin [Charlie’s dog] are excellent company, for now. I started out thinking that with all this free time I’d get so much done: do yoga every day, meditate, learn a new skill; now I’m pleased with myself if I just brush my teeth.
Tell us about Isolation Bingo? It’s looks great!
Prior to lockdown, back in the time I now refer to as: “The before days”, you know, before we were wiping our asses with dried leaves, I was doing hugely successful bingo nights all over the country. So as soon as the lockdown was announced I decided I’d find a way to do it online. It’s a lot of fun and is still quite interactive. It’s 50% cabaret show and 50% bingo.
How can people play and what can they win?
People buy their tickets via OutSavvy and on the day of the event their unique bingo card is emailed to them along with the instructions. They can win a fabulous Webster Wig, Lashes from Wig Mistress, accessories from Sequin Showstoppers or a £75.00 Amazon Gift Card.
What’s the first thing you’re going to do once this is all over?
The first thing I’ll do when this is all over is stop hissing at people when they get too close to me in the supermarket…then I’ll go out to my local with my friends and have a big G&T and laugh at how shite all our haircuts are.
