Michael Taylor Jackson’s debut feature, Underground Orange (Bajo Naranja), will have its international premiere at Rio Cinema on 14 September 2024 as part of Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest.
This self-described ‘genre-fluid’ film features the filmmaker as an American backpacker visiting Argentina hoping to discover more about a pirate. Instead, he becomes involved with a radical theatre group plotting to kidnap the US ambassador. The film is a radical and innovative exploration of identity, performance and politics. Michael Taylor Jackson will be at the screening.
Following screenings at Sundance and Frameline, Thelma Hammell’s Stress Positions comes to Fringe Queer Film & Arts Fest on 17 September at Genesis Cinema.
Set in the confines of a lockdown-era Brooklyn home, this quintessentially queer comedy of errors is a pioneering portrait of the terminally online, neurotic queer state felt by many during that period of isolation and subsequently. Heda Hamell will be taking part in a Q&A after the screening.
The festival’s closing night will be a 4K restoration of Rose Troche’s 1994 lesbian classic Go Fish, restored by the Academy Film Archives and UCLA in time for its 30th anniversary.
Go Fish portrays the joys and strength of Chicago’s lesbian community and remains a moving testament to the power of queer community. The film will screen at Rich Mix on 22 September.
The full programme will be announced online on 29 August at www.fringefilmfest.com
