The Festival of Football ’26 community tournament brings together teams from across supporter networks, GFSN, the NHS and local businesses, including dedicated FLINTA* divisions championing representation in football.
Promoting inclusivity and community spirit through football
On Saturday, March 28th, the West London Queer Project (WLQP) will once again host the third annual Festival of Football at Grasshoppers RFC in Isleworth. This event is sponsored by the PI Partnership Group and is in partnership with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, Chelsea Pride, and QPR in the Community Trust.
This tournament is part of the dedicated ‘Football v Transphobia Week of Action’
Homophobia and transphobia are major issues across football, undermining the sport’s claims of inclusivity and equality. Even though some progress has been made in promoting diversity, discrimination in the sport remains widespread. This includes not only homophobia but also the marginalisation and exclusion of the trans community from participation and recognition within the game. The festival aims to challenge discrimination and is working to create pathways for full participation. WLQP believes that football has a powerful opportunity to live up to its reputation as the beautiful game—one that truly welcomes everyone.
The Festival of Football 2026 promises to be an exciting event
The festival features a unique division for Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender individuals (FLINTA*) as well as an Open/Mixed division, both participating in 6-a-side matches. Teams will represent football clubs from across the country, including the NHS, the Metropolitan Police, community groups, and more. While the matches will celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity and acceptance, the event will also raise awareness about the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people in sports.
The Festival of Football 2026 is a collaborative effort
This festival involves professional football clubs, their fan groups, local councils, and community organisations. They are all committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in sports. Through this event, West London Queer Project will highlight the importance of creating safe and welcoming environments for all LGBTQ+ individuals within the football community.
WLQP has added this festival to an already vibrant calendar of events
The WLQP calendar includes weekly LGBTQ+ football skills sessions in partnership with QPR in the Community Trust and Brentford Community Sports Trust, with support from Brentford LGBeeTs and Chelsea Pride. The sessions take place every Monday, rotating between Chiswick and White City. They are free to attend and open to everyone.
Join the Festival of Football ’26 at Grasshoppers RFC in Isleworth on Saturday 28 March 2026, from 10am to 5pm to cheer on the teams.
