• Queer Britain’s galleries are completely refreshed for 2026.

• Late opening for evening museum visits on 18 June and 16 July.

• Special exhibition: Fighting With Pride.

• Meet the author events: The Queer Bookshelf, Rainbow Wales and Bond, Queer Bond.

In February, Queer Britain reopened its galleries with exciting new displays for 2026. The exhibition features over 200 objects, including a panel from the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt, stunning costumes from Club Kali, shirts worn by Justin Fashanu, and subversive songs from the Women’s Liberation music movement.

“As we mark 54 years since the very first London Pride, there’s no better time to visit Queer Britain to learn more about LGBTQ history with stories of community, reflection, creativity and join from the UK and celebrate our shared queer stories past and present.”

New Temporary Exhibition:

• Fighting With Pride (03 June – 20 December):

In 2000, the UK government announced it would lift the ban on gay people serving in the Armed Forces. Before this, it was illegal to be gay in the British military, resulting in the dismissal of gay service members who were stripped of their medals solely because of their sexuality. This new pop-up exhibition, created in partnership with the LGBT+ veterans charity Fighting For Pride, highlights the stories of those whose lives were shattered by this ban.

Meet The Author:

• Layla McCay – The Queer Bookshelf on 13 June at 2.30 pm (£15/pay what you can).

We have always existed, and so have our stories. Discover literary classics, pulp fiction, war writing, crime thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, and young adult literature.

• Max Hovey – No Fats, No Fems on 24 June at 6.30pm (£15/pay what you can).

Max Hovey’s new book investigates the prejudice and discrimination many queer people experience both online and physically.  Chaired by Kenny Ethan Jones.

• Emily Garside – Rainbow Wales on 27 June at 2.30 pm (£15/pay what you can).

Lisa Power interviews Emily Garside to explore queer figures who have made history in Wales, including both well-known names and lesser-known icons.

• Mollie E. Barnes & Gemma Rolls-Bentley – Queer Art on 22 July at 6.30pm (£15/pay what you can).
