With No.1 album and single already under her belt, this week Diana Vickers returns to G-A-Y with new single ‘Cinderella’…

The follow up to your debut No.1 album is out soon…

I’m really excited, I feel like I’ve finally written the album I’ve always wanted to. It’s a lot more mature and sophisticated than the first one, and a little bit sassier! I teamed-up with the pop Queen Miranda copper – part of Xenomania – and we practically co-wrote the whole album together. Ant Whiting, who’s produced both of the Rizzle Kicks albums, has been involved. I’ve co-written with Donkey Boys Simon and Simone Erikstrud, and Grammy nominated David Gamson, too!

Has living out in East London with the boyfriend influenced your musical direction at all?

I guess it has! When I met George he introduced me to all sorts of music I hadn’t heard before. And over the past three years I’ve just grown up so much and the things I’m into now have changed dramatically. I love living East. It’s the best. Full of creative people. It’s a cool bunch!

You’re also in a new Sky Living comedy, ‘Give Out Girls’ …

I can’t wait! I had so much fun. When I first auditioned for it and read the script, I was laughing so much. I knew from the minute I read it I wanted the part! It’s about Promo girls, the ones you see in town centres, dressed in silly outfits trying to give you some random product. It’s about all the ridiculous things that happen to them and between them and the public. It’s such a great cast, I can’t wait for everyone to see it.

You’ve come a long way from the days of X Factor. What have been the biggest lessons you’ve learned?

I think that an important lesson for me was that things take time. I’ve been in the industry for about five years now, and I’m so proud of what I have achieved, but I want to do so many more things. I used to worry all the time about what other people in the industry were doing and why wasn’t I doing that? But I’ve learnt that I’m on my own journey and it’s not a race. And it’s so much better to take your time with things and get it right!

You’re performing at Heaven this week. Are you ready for the madness that is G-A-Y?

Oh, I LOVE G-A-Y! Every show I have done there has been mad, but I love mad! The crowd are always so up for it. It’s just one big party, really! No one is ever judging, people are just there to have fun. That’s the kind of gig I love.
