Comedy Soup is the second Tuesday of every month, and it’s a fundraiser for Mermaids. Enjoy a steaming hot bowl of comedy goodness! Every second Tuesday, John The Unicorn brings you the freshest ingredients in comedy, with hosts and ten different comedians to create two hours of hilarity! They are ‘pay as much as you can’ events to raise money for Mermaids.
Mermaids supports transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children and young people, along with their families.
Initially, in 1995, a small group of concerned parents were around the kitchen table, having come together to share experiences, find answers and look for ways to keep their children safe and happy.
Today, Mermaids is one of the leading LGBTQ+ charities in the UK, empowering thousands with secure online communities, local community groups, events, helpline services, residential weekends and web resources. Mermaids educates and informs wider society on gender identity and helps professionals accommodate and reassure gender-diverse young people. There have been many changes in the language and understanding surrounding gender issues. Still, one thing remains the same: transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children deserve the confidence and freedom to explore their gender identity free from isolation, fear, and discrimination.
Mermaids provide for children and young people until their 20th birthday, as well as the families and professionals involved in their care. Support includes reducing isolation and loneliness, providing the tools needed to negotiate education and health services, helping to cope better with mental and emotional distress, improving self-esteem and social skills, and enhancing professionals’ awareness, understanding and practices.
Mermaids helps families navigate the challenges they may face, whatever the outcome.
