TheMenWhoFell2Earth deliver a striking music policy, with a cool crowd at one of the hottest gay venues in town. Don’t miss their 2nd birthday this weekend! Cliff Joannou met the duo behind the decks…

What sets TheMenWhoFell2Earth music policy apart from other gay clubs?

It’s probably a bit more open minded and eclectic than some – not all – but some. It’s music for dancing for sure, but what’s the point in limiting yourself? There’s so much good new music that doesn’t rely on being called house or disco or techno or mainstream. There’s an even bigger pile of classics to raid for inspiration, too, which we relish doing every time round! We labeled it ‘Punk Funk, Dirty Disco and Remixed Rock ‘n’ Roll’ when we started. Now that seems to mean getting things like a new Hot Chip or Oliver remix rubbing-up alongside a Prince nugget while veering off into Hot Creations and Crosstown territory, before bringing it back to via some LCD Soundsystem, some old garage and a dirty Batty Bass record… somehow.

What’s the deal with the Bowie tie in?

Hero. Simple. Whilst we used to have a club where we touched on playing his music [Rebel Rebel], we didn’t see any reason why this new one couldn’t be inspired by him – even though it doesn’t feature much of his music at it. The imagery, iconography and inspiration all take their cues from elements of Bowie, but it’s more homage than tribute. At the Birthday party, we’ll be screening the brand new Radio Soulwax/2ManyDJ’s movie called ‘Dave’. It’s their standard mash-up brilliance, this time all with Bowie records set to a custom made film. We’ll be transforming the mirrorball lounge into Dave’s very own free cinema for the night.

What else happening for the 2nd birthday?

We’ve had a great year of guests – Jamie Bull, Jim Stanton, Paul Heron, The Lovely Jonjo and Erol Sabadosh, to name but a few – so we wanted a special birthday treat, and Luke Howard fits the bill perfectly. That man oozes class. Push The Button are gonna cause a back room hot mess, too. Our boy Oly hosts and BOTHER will be taking to our stage yet again to give birth to a boner-licious birthday bonanza: sexpect song, beauty, and the ridiculous.
