Tricks Of The Trade

You know when the seasons are changing. It’s not when temperatures begin to rise, nor when Soho Square is packed with poofs eating al fresco, nor is it when batty riders become (semi) appropriate again, but when Trade’s Spring Opening arrives…

Tom Stephan

What do you most look forward to about the changing of the season?

Guys in shorts, of course!

Who are you most looking forward to taking a selfie with at Trade Spring Opening?

I figure selfies are best done alone. No competition that way.

Which producer do you think is going to have a super Spring?

Me of course! I’ve just remixed Beyonce, and I played the amazing Black Party in NYC last weekend, and of course the totally awesome Trade Spring Opening!

Top 3 Trade Tracks

01: ‘Partition’ (Tom Stephan Mix) – Beyonce
I guess this is a musical selfie!? I’m really proud of this mix, and I just finished it. So it’s number one for me this week.

02: ‘Getcha Gotta Get It’ (The Cucarachas Mix) – Vane Venice
Borja Peña and yours truly on the mix. Old school baseline with nu school spoken rap. Hot!

03: ‘Do You Remember House Music?’Chris Sammarco
People go crazy when I play this. Every time. Someone comes up to the booth holding their head going, “What’s thissssss?!”

BK

In your Spring clean what musically are you keeping and throwing away?

Ohhhh. I never throw anything away, but I always find some gems when having a clean up. Probably ditching some of the darker tunes and swapping for some happier vibes.

Who are you most looking forward to taking a selfie with at Trade Spring Opening?

Ian M because he always makes you feel better about yourself.

Which Trade DJ/Character do you think will embarrass themselves most at this event?

Probably Andy Williams aka the Funsta. Bless her, she can’t move like she used to.

Which producer do you think is going to have a super Spring?

Sam Townend is making some great stuff.

Top 3 Trade Tracks

01: ‘Nation’BK & Ben Stevens
Made with Trade in mind it nods a wink to some of the epic hard house of late.

02: ‘The Ultimate’ – Swack
Tough and chunky house that’s hard.

03:  ‘FQ’BK & Andy Farley
Camp tough hard house with a twisted break down.

JASON CHANCE

In your Spring clean what musically are you keeping and throwing away?

As good as it is, I think I’m done with the Disclosure album now, I’ve rinsed that one. My fave down tempo/chill out album is ‘If You Wait’ from London Grammar. I love it, so that stays for the upcoming Summer evenings.

Who are you most looking forward to taking a selfie with at Trade Spring Opening?

Ooooooh this is a tough one! I reckon it’s going to be a battle between Ian M and BK; as DJs and producers they both played a huge part in getting me into clubbing/DJing.

Which producer do you think is going to have a super Spring?

Prok & Fitch are good mates and still one of my biggest inspirations. Also Mike Vale will have a super Spring! I’m just loving Mike’s work right now, his new track ‘Revelation’ with Simon Doty is right up my strasse!

Top 3 Trade Tracks

01: ‘Just Like That’Jason Chance & Pagano
My first collab with Pagano. Only finished two weeks ago and snapped up by Toolroom Records within 24 hours. Perfect. A real head-bopping groover.

 02: ‘Gravy’Muzzaik
Love Muzzaik’s work and they’re back on form with this. Wicked breakdown and I always love their build-ups too.

03: ‘Shamen’My Digital Enemy
MDE are great friends of mine and enjoying much-deserved success right now. Huge, huge track that works every time.

MASSIMO PARAMOUR

In your Spring clean what musically are you keeping and throwing away?

I’m throwing away a lot of old Tech House and rescuing a lot of Old School House vinyl, 1993-95. I’m emotionally attached to that era… and it has never sounded so current!

Who are you most looking forward to taking a selfie with at Trade Spring Opening?

Definitely Laurence Malice. I have a lot of respect for him!

Which producer do you think is going to have a super Spring?

Bontan, after winning as best selling remix of 2014 with ‘Got A Feeling’, is in the studio producing some new music.

Top 3 Trade Tracks

01: ‘Okay’ Shiba San
Massively supported by Claude Vonstroke, this track, with its infectious bass-line, is destroying every dance-floor. Masterpiece!

02: ‘Amore Amore’ – Vanilla Ace
Vanilla Ace steals Donna Summer’s ‘Love to Love You Baby’ vocal hook, puts it in a blender and distills a pure deep house gem.

03: ‘You Know’ – Adam Beyer & Ida Engberg
Adam Beyer goes deep house with Ida Engberg on vocals. With its beautiful interweaving of melodies, this is definitely a track you can’t help but bop your head to the entire time, and lose yourself to the music.

• Trade Spring Opening is at Egg London (200 York Way, Kings Cross, N7 9AX) on Saturday 29th March, 2pm midnight.
