Pleased to Meet You!

It’s Jon Pleased Wimmin, ladies and gentlemen! She is THE talk of the town. She’s a concept, she’s too cool for school, she’s cooler than you. She keeps her friends close, and her enemas closer.

Now she’s whipping those luscious blonde locks around and doing her flawless red lipstick whilst walking down Kingsland Road. It’s all in preparation for her gorgeous night of debauchery PLEASED’S 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY at Dalston Superstore. Iconic.

Hi Jon Pleased Wimmin. What are YOU so pleased about?

I’m very happy that the wonderful Kris Chapman dragged me out of retirement to restart Pleased with him and that it’s going so well. Also kudos to my first drag daughter Guillotina Munter for encouraging me to get back on the decks. I didn’t realise how much I missed it all and I’m busier than ever.

We see it’s Pleased’s first birthday. What’s your dream birthday present?

I don’t really crave material things these days, but I can think of something that would make me happy and it involves Michael Fassbender at one end and Jamie Dornan at the other.

Are you going to make a wish?

That would be telling (see last answer)

You did Kinky Gerlinky back in the day didn’t you. It was THE place. Tell us about that.

It was an explosion of expression and no holds barred showing off. What was so great about it amongst other things was it’s naïveté and British-ness. It was a big old mess that just worked. There’s been nothing really like it since that’s crossed as many genres/barriers/scenes.

You’re really glam, you must have met some celebs. What was your best celeb encounter?

I remember sitting behind Joan & Jackie Collins on the flight back from the Vienna Love Ball. We exchanged smiles and I gagged at the amount of luggage they had at the carousel.

What words do you have for London’s luxury flat developers?

Bugger off!

When did you first meet Ma Butcher? Was she snuffling for truffles?

I met Ma at my Church of High Kicks weekly event at CC Blooms in Edinburgh about 5 years ago. I adopted her instantly!

We like your look. Who was it inspired by? We think it’s quite Tanya Turner.

Who’s that? I like to think there’s elements of all the women I’ve admired over the years in there. Kate Bush, Debbie Harry, Joan Collins, Jerry Hall, Sharon from Eastenders (joke!)

Speaking of looks, Pleased has a totes fashmag slag reputation. What should people wear?

Whatever makes them happy.

Have you got any party tricks in store for Pleased’s birthday bash?

I’ve been practicing with those snake things that lay gelatin eggs inside you, so maybe.

Errr…ok

You know what they say. Keep your friends close and your enemas closer.

What advice do you have for young pleased wimmin around the world?

Get up and dance, enjoy your life. As my recent single on Kidology London Records states… “Don’t be scared of yourself, it’s not good for your health. Don’t live your life as somebody else”

• The PLEASED 1st Birthday Party is on Fri 4th Sept at Dalston Superstore, 117 Kingsland High Street, E8 2PB. 10pm – 3am. Free entry before 11, £5 after.
