Put down your Pret sandwich, click away from Twitter Moments, and flutter headlong into the world of The Albion Faeries.

They’re a collective of LGBT and queer people (and straights are welcome too apparently!), who come together in safe spaces to celebrate spirituality in sexuality.

Imagine a world where Galadriel was a promoter in Vauxhall and Tinkerbell was a LIPSYNC1000 contestant. Shed your urban constraints like an admiral butterfly emerging from its chrysalis! Celebrate nature as an escape from our mind-numbing metropolis! Knit your own gender and dye your own t-shirts!

The Albion Faeries are providing a much-needed escape from the jagerbomb-swilling, Kardashian-sharing, immigrant-bashing, Tom Daley-perving reality of our modern world.

We spoke to Faerie ShokTi, and asked them to define the essence of being a faerie. They responded by saying that no-one can define it. Good answer!

“Rad Fae are radical in that we explore the ROOTS of who we are,” they continued “as humans, as queers, and as sexual beings on a quest for self discovery, natural ecstasy and deep love generously shared in our community.”

“We are faeries because we are aware that we are part of nature, in touch with the elements, with animal spirits and the seasonal cycles. We come together to share our stories, heal and explore self-expression and spirituality.”

“We hold drum circles and heart circles in London, 10 day gatherings in Glastonbury and Northumberland and are part of the Eurofaerie network with its sanctuary in France.”

• The Faeries have just held a gorgeous gathering in Northumberland at Featherstone Castle. Their next event is a drumming circle in Vauxhall on Saturday 9th April.
