Preview: How To Catch A Krampus

Krampus

Sink The Pink. Where to even start with these fab bitches. They’ve taken over the world a little bit. Usually, people taking over the world is bad, but when it’s creatures like THIS, it can only be good.

If for some bizarre reason you’ve never heard of Sink The Pink, let us paint a picture for you. Imagine if Alice (off of Alice In Wonderland) had gone to Central Saint Martins after emerging from the rabbit hole. Then interned for Madonna. Then created a drag dance troupe. Then basically you’ve got Sink The Pink.

Their creator isn’t ACTUALLY Alice, it’s the next best thing…Glynfamous and Amy Zing! Both lovely, imaginative people. There aren’t enough lovely, imaginative people around these days. STP is known for its colourful, eccentric, high-energy productions, and this winter it looks like they’ll outdo themselves.

It’s a Christmas show. Sort of. It’s a Halloween show. Sort of. It’s How To Catch A Krampus! A twisted fairytale inspired by all sorts of other twisted fairytales before it. It’s an homage to London’s wending alleys and rain-spattered cobbles. From the catacombs of Camden to the hair shops of Hackney.

It’s the story of part-time spirit medium/full-time con artist Ginger Johnson! We’ve seen Ginger Johnson perform before and she’s…a one. She’s one of those performers you can’t look away from. And she’ll be joined by ANOTHER performer you can’t look away from, Lavinia Co-Op; a drag legend, and a true stalwart of the community (people always say things like “stalwart of the community” but she actually is).

OH CHRIST, also – we almost forgot one of the best bits. It’s at the Pleasance Theatre. Which you might recognize when you turn up because it was the setting for one of the best episodes of Ab Fab ever – the one where Zaffy puts on her play, Self-Raising Flower. And Eddie and Patsy sit at the back and shout “PISS OFF!”

Amazing. So, drag queens, theatre, spookiness, Christmas and Ab Fab all in one evening. Alice is shook! Oh and apparently it contains nudity, flashing lights and scenes of a violent and disturbing nature *Patsy Stone voice * Ooh fantastic.

How To Catch A Krampus is at the Pleasance Theatre from 13th November. For full listings and tickets, head to pleasance.co.uk
