Kylie Minogue to headline Brighton Pride this year

Step aside Britney, the princess of pop is in town. Marking half a century of LGBT liberation, Brighton Pride’s Pride in the Park has announced that their Saturday Night headliner will be the one, the only… Kylie Minogue. Having firmly secured her status as a gay icon following three decades of pop hits, she’s set to storm the festival stage in the name of Pride.

This year’s Pride celebrations the world over have an added significance as we mark 50 years since the birth of the gay liberation movement at Stonewall. Kylie has long been a vocal ally of the LGBT community throughout her career supporting several LGBT causes including the fight against HIV/AIDS. This will be her first appearance at a UK Pride celebration, though this is rumoured to not be her only festival appearance this year with speculation that she might also be appearing at Glastonbury. Many queer fans have found solace in her music with her 14 albums providing a soundtrack to many a gay night out.

She has forged a career for herself as a talented performer putting on lavish stage performers, complete with sequins, feathers and glitter, as well as elaborate choreography and staging. He has previously performed at Sydney’s Mardi Gras which was seen as her giving back to her devout LGBT fans in Australia. She will take to the stage of Pride in the Park on Saturday, the 3rd of August.

Also announced on the bill are English electronic music group Clean Bandit, who have enjoyed great success in recent years with the career-defining ‘Rather Be’ featuring Jess Glyn catapulting them to huge popularity. The Grammy award-winning group originated as a string quartet but have since broken through barriers in the pop, electronic and R&B world. They’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, from Sean Paul to Demi Locato, wracking up 9 UK top 5 singles, more than Bruno Mars and Adele.
