QX PREVIEW: Berlin Berlin

The glam goth queer club brand celebrates its 20th birthday this Saturday

Berlin Berlin is one of the best nights out in London. Daring, gorgeous and high-energy, it effortlessly and fearlessly smashes together goth with glam, wicca with warehouse and trans with techno.

The atmosphere is something very special, and quite hard to describe – but describing is literally our job, so we’ll try.

Imagine the nightclub scene from Blade mixed with the nightclub scene from the Matrix. Throw in a few dozen London club kids, some fashion designers and DJs and some old-school straight partiers out for a good time, and you’re sort of getting close to the vibe at Berlin Berlin.

Always melding with a host of other club brands/collectives, it takes over the whole of the labyrinthine den of iniquity Egg London in Kings Cross. This time round they’re celebrating their birthday with Homostash, the supercool gay disco conceived over in East London; fab latex-clad creatures of the night Monster Queen; acclaimed art goblins Kuntskammer and the whole of the TrashEra collective from Berlin.

As well as those there’ll be partygoers bringing the Earth-stopping looks to the dancefloor, like Parma Ham with their trademark sky-high Mohawk, Luke Harris with an always extraterrestrial aesthetic and neon kawaii kids Santi Storm and Prince JayJay.

Their special guest DJ for the evening is the legendary electro DJ Jonny Slut from Nag Nag Nag, plus Deepneue, Lipstick Trash, Flavia Laus and more all spinning Berlin-influenced electro heavy tunes.

So pull on some stacked Doc Martens, put on some black lipstick and get down to Kings Cross to experience something accepting, imaginative and truly unique.

Berlin Berlin – The Birthday is on Saturday 24th August at Egg London, 200 York Way, N7 9AX. 9pm – 7am. Earlybird tickets £10 / £15, £25 on the door.
