For LGBTQ+ and World Cinema fans this is a film that must be added to your watch list. An important moment in European Cinema where a trans actress has been cast to play a trans role, a leading role. One that trans youth can relate to, making the film authentic and true.

Families are complicated, never easy and often it takes the death of someone to bring the important things in life back into perspective. The sudden loss of her mother was devastating for Lola, made even worse by Philippe her father, attempting to exclude Lola from the funeral.

Unwilling to let go, Lola takes her mother’s ashes and attempts to fulfil her last wish, to have her ashes scattered at the sea. Initially thwarted by Philippe, father and daughter attempt to put some of their differences aside to take the journey together. It becomes a journey of discovery and healing for them both.

LOLA AND THE SEA has won numerous awards including 2 Belgium Oscars (Magritte Awards)

Starring the legendary Benoit Magimel as Phillipe and WINNER Most Promising Actress Mya Bollaers as Lola along with  Sami Outabali, (SEX EDUCATION) in his first film role.
