This year’s QueerFest program will explore the theme of desire through a diverse selection of contemporary and classic Queer cinema.

Our desires shape many aspects of our identities and behaviours; however, Queer desire is often portrayed as taboo or marginalised. QueerFest aims to challenge these attitudes and consider how desire manifests within Queer communities: who we want to be, who we love, who we touch, and everything in between.

Cinema offers a unique opportunity to explore different life experiences

This year, they are kicking off their season with a preview screening of The Summer with Carmen – described as ‘Sexy and charming’ and ‘a tail-wagging celebration of gay dating, filmmaking and four-legged chaos’.

QueerFest will also examine how performance and transformation in the drag world inform personal identity in Solo

Additionally, they will engage in discussions about trans representation with recent Golden Globe winner Emilia Pérez and witness the strength of Queer sisterhood in the face of conservatism with Power Alley.

The QueerFest program includes a humorous and exciting look at India’s ‘third gender,’ Hijra, in India’s 1st Best Trans Model Agency.

They’ll also dive into Fassbinder’s classic tale of tormented romance in The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant.

QueerFest will also discuss the challenges of adaptation in a special edition of the Book to Film Club featuring Queer, Luca Guadagnino’s unique interpretation of the novella by William S. Burroughs (see QX interview).
