Originating from A Portuguese Love Affair, their deli on Hackney Road, the Love Affair Basement serves as a lively sanctuary that fosters queer creativity and community.

During the day, they offer workshops, pop-up events, and private dining, while at night, the space comes alive with cabaret, cinema, drag shows, and comedy performances.

This venue supports artists, women, trans and queer youth, and anyone eager to share their unique creative endeavours.

As part of the official programme for LGBT History Month at L.A.B., Romancero Books is presenting the launch of groundbreaking Hemisferio Cuir: An Anthology of Young Queer Latin American Poetry collection, edited by Leo Boix and published by fourteen poems press and translated by Romancero Books.

The event includes a conversation and poetry reading with its publisher Ben Townley-Canning, editor, poet and translator Leo Boix and poet Tibiezas Dager.

‘Hemisferio Cuir: An Anthology of Young Queer Latin American Poetry’ is an exciting new collection that showcases LGBTQIA+ voices from across Latin America. This bold bilingual anthology highlights the work of young LGBTQIA+ poets from the Latin American region and its diaspora, amplifying their unique perspectives and experiences.

Edited and translated by award-winning poet Leo Boix, Hemisferio Cuir is a literary milestone that examines queer desires, transgressive sexualities, and radical body politics in a post-patriarchal world.

Featuring poets from 18 Spanish-speaking countries, this anthology unites a broad spectrum of queer expression—from Indigenous and Afro-Latin American poets to voices from rural communities—offering a powerful and intersectional portrait of contemporary Latin American poetry.
