The first national LGBT History Month took place in 2005, and the campaign was created by educational charity Schools OUT following the repeal of Section 28.

Every February, events take place across the UK, and there are amazing local festivals to engage with.

forum+ (Camden and Islington LGBT Charity) has curated a fantastic programme of activities and events celebrating the incredible history and achievements of the LGBT community. You can explore LGBT history through craft workshops, discussions, exhibitions, film screenings, guided walks, performances, talks and more!

Camden and Islington’s rich LGBT history comes to life through a collection of over 30 diverse and engaging events, designed to educate, entertain, and inspire.

Highlights include LGBT History Month Community Day at the British Museum, Collections Corner at the British Library, Launch of The Log Books at iconic Housmans and a Polari Workshop at St Luke’s Community Centre!

Most events are free to join, and many welcome our allies who are interested in learning about LGBT history.

The official national theme for LGBT History Month 2026 is “Science and Innovation.” This year’s theme aims to recognise and highlight the contributions of LGBT+ individuals in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, both historically and in the present day.

This February, take the opportunity to learn about remarkable LGBT scientists and innovators, and celebrate the inspiring creatives, pioneers, and trailblazers from Camden and Islington.

The complete programme for Camden & Islington LGBT History Month 2026 can be viewed and downloaded at www.forumplus.org.uk.

“LGBT History Month is not only a celebration of our culture but also an important opportunity to champion inclusion and equality for LGBT people. Let’s educate and inspire everyone with the rich history of LGBT communities.”
