This Queer Arab Family is a follow-up title to the highly successful This Arab is Queer (Saqi, 2022).

In Arab culture, tradition often defines an individual’s role in the family, with personal desires set aside in favour of unity. So, what happens when Queer Arabs challenge and reimagine these expectations?

This body of work celebrates the beauty of chosen kinship and the everyday acts of care and survival that connect Queer Arabs with one another. In this collection, ten LGBTQ+ writers from across the Arab world and its diaspora redefine what family means. From raising children with two mothers to becoming an OnlyFans star and creating a non-binary belly-dancing robot, these writers share their lived experiences, highlighting how queer joy and community can be discovered in the most unexpected places.

“A stunner of a book … Building on the success of This Arab is Queer, Jahshan has gathered yet another extraordinary collection of essays with new depths and wonderful lyrical writing.”

Danny Ramadan

Bold, colourful, and unapologetic, This Queer Arab Family honours the spirit of those who, despite challenges, create community and family on their own terms.
