Now, add water sports, wildlife, whisky tours, and women arriving from across the globe — and you’ll experience the magic of the Oban Lesbian+ Weekend.
Oban Lesbian+ Weekend returns this September for its 5th annual celebration. The event invites LGBTQ+ women, along with trans and non-binary people who feel part of the lesbian+ community, to gather in the spectacular west coast harbour town of Oban from 3–7 September or all week for many.
What began as a small community gathering has grown into a unique LGBTQ+ event — blending outdoor adventure, Scottish culture and genuine connection in one of the country’s most beautiful coastal settings.
At the heart of the weekend is community
Guests can expect water sports, wildlife watching, whisky tour options and coastal adventures, alongside a vibrant social programme designed to help women meet, mingle, and create lasting friendships.
“I’ve been to events in London and other places for years but I’ve never been anywhere that had as good an atmosphere or was as friendly as Oban Lesbian+ Weekend”.
– MS. London
One of the most talked-about highlights is the traditional Scottish cèilidh
This is believed to be the only cèilidh (pronounced kay-lee) in the world exclusively for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people. You can dance with every woman in the room.
This is Scotland, where the setting is just as magical as the events
Just a five-minute sail (or paddleboard!) from Oban lies the tiny island of Kerrera, where festival-goers will experience one of the weekend’s most unforgettable moments: a fire eater performing alongside other entertainers in an intimate island setting.
Elsewhere on the programme
You’ll find castles, comedy, coastal cruises and plenty of opportunities for creating connections — all set against the dramatic landscapes of Scotland’s west coast and the surrounding Inner Hebrides.
This year, the celebrations don’t stop when the weekend ends
For the first time, organisers are offering small island day trips in the days that follow, allowing guests to continue exploring the Hebrides together — effectively transforming the event into something of an “Oban Lesbian+ Week.”
“Whether you come solo, with friends, or with a partner, the spirit of the weekend is simple: adventure, community and celebration.”
– Oban Lesbian+ Weekend
In a world where queer women’s spaces can be rare, Oban Lesbian+ Weekend is creating something special — a place where LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people can gather, explore and dance together by the sea.
