Like bears drawn to a honey pot, Honey Honey has had a strong start by selling out on its launch night. QX spoke with Honey Honey promoter DJ Cactushead about the event, the experience of launching a new queer club night in London, and how everything is going according to plan.
You’ve had two events now. How did your first two parties go?
A total blast to be honest. A crowd of beauties, socialising, flirting and dancing – it was brilliant to see the response. Our first one is a sell out and we’ve had some top notch feedback.
Have you settled on a formula yet?
I think so, yes – a place for bears, cubs, chubs, daddies and admirers to come together to chat, flirt and dance, in a space designed for all of those things. With added candyfloss – free! We love Electrowerkz so much because the Courtyard is so good for chatting and being heard and you can still go next door and dance your heart away to the latest poppy house hits. I think we have the blend down, but goodness, we are still listening to the community, keen to adapt, intent on being the night that our tribe wants.
How hard do you think it is to launch a club night at the moment?
So difficult. It’s London, one of the busiest and queerest cities on the planet. And people are stretched, and we totally understand this. It’s important to have a singular vision and determination to push through a strong idea for a night that you yourself think is missing, and hope that others will want to go to as well. You have to keep the experience as strong as possible, and the prices as low as feasible. If you build it, they will come – is that quote showing my age?
A club night can be its own beast, have there been any surprises along the way?
I’ve been genuinely touched by the support and engagement from the community. Everyone has been so lovely and so encouraging. These nights live or die on their value to the people you’re hoping to get through the door, so this has meant the absolute world to us. We need people to keep talking, keep spreading the word and keep supporting. We’re still a new night and momentum is everything, honeys.
What can we look forward to at the next party?
The return of the Honey Bears, bringing in midnight with a special performance. What a hot bunch! We have the incredible Tuffcub and Cowlick soundtracking the night alongside me, and I couldn’t be happier. They’re basically legends. People need to get there early for Happy Hour too – house spirits + mixer for £5! You can always look forward to the gorgeous Electrowerkz with their professional team on security, cloakroom and bar. Most of all, you can expect to walk into a space that is a warm hug, and to be able to catch up with friends, maybe sneak in a little snog and dance your worries away.
Honey Honey is on Friday 22 May 2026, 10pm – 4am, at Electrowerkz, 7 Torrens Street, Angel, Islington, London EC1V 1NQ, United Kingdom.
