As we celebrate LGBTIQ+ Pride Month, we learn that LGBTIQ+ people are fleeing homophobic and transphobic laws in conservative states in the USA. With many LGBTIQ+ people moving to Seattle, one of the most progressive cities in the United States, the influx of new queer residents has become so significant that Seattle’s city leaders are considering declaring a civil emergency due to the increased demand for resources such as housing, healthcare, legal assistance, and other essential support services.
This is internal displacement. It doesn’t matter if it’s Uganda or Oklahoma, no one should be forced to flee their home to live safely.

There are still pockets of queer welcome across the USA and they are preparing to celebrate LGBTIQ+ Pride 2026.
While Trump’s hostile borders, especially towards trans and non binary traveller, will justifiably put off many queer travellers from visiting the USA, QX salutes the many Pride organisations across the USA that stand defiantly against oppression in support of the LGBTIQ+ community.
We list just a few of the Pride events in the USA here but acknowledge them all in the work they do to keep our community visible and safe during these challenging times.
