G-A-Y PRESENTS ALEXANDRA BURKE

10/03/12: It was history in the making last Saturday at G-A-Y!

First let’s give our props to one of the best sets yet to grace G-A-Y as talent show prodigy, Alexandra Burke, re-instated her claim to the mainstream’s hall of fame – winning over detractors as well as a deafening ovation.

All woman in her form-fitting, patterned playsuit, Burke emerged to a barrage of whistles and screams from the heaving crowd, high on the shoulders of her four Union Jack bearing dancers. She strutted into the first song of the night – the anthemic ‘Broken Heels’.

Displaying stunning, martial art-like precision, sharp turns, and that gasp-inducing backside, Burke was already into her next number – the grind-worthy guilty pleasure, ‘Start Without You’.

The crowd went crazy for the fiercely synchronized routine, until she slowed it down for the dancehall break… where suddenly the game changed as Burke proceeded to dutty-wine and drop low on the beat’s accents with an agile vivacity!

Next up, ‘Hallelujah’ – and the house came down; the confetti cannons exploded, the wind machine whipped into action and the power-ballad began. Tearful, and barely audible over the applause, next track ‘All Night Long’ was swept into another effortlessly tight routine. ‘Bad Boys’ followed, before the final song, latest tempo-jacking jump-athon single ‘Elephant’.

After she’d said her thanks, blown her kisses and bowed out, we ducked backstage to congratulate the lady, and were surprised to find Alexandra’s current beau, Jermain Defoe (pictured, far right), in the house!

A premiership football player in a gay club, there to support his gal and not ashamed of what the tabloids might say! To this we heartily send our congratulations to Mr Defoe and our thanks… it’s a message to the mainstream world that the football community has nothing to fear from being associated with anything gay.
A definite moment of Heaven history.
