LET THERE BE WAR!

Fresh from co-promoting 2011’s most talked-about gay disco, Meat, Kris Di Angelis unveils his new club brand set to devastate a dance floor near you in 2012: WAR!

For launch night, he’s joined by his good friend All Saints’ Mel Blatt, who will be playing a special guest DJ set. Cliff Joannou took the pair aside to go behind the scenes of what looks set to be an explosive new night…

MEL BLATT

Mel! We love you, and we love ‘I’ll Be Fine’ and ‘Just Say You Love Me’, your new records that Kris produced. How did those come about?

I heard him play at Jodie Harsh’s birthday and loved what he was doing. I was then making a track with the Invisible Men who he was working with and asked… begged… him to collaborate. I didn’t know he’d give me such an incredible song though! Glad I got in there when I did!

Now, how the hell did he persuade you to DJ at War? Have you DJ’ed before?

Yeah loads. I actually played for him at his Bachelor Parties last summer on the roof of Soho House, and had such an awesome time. I’m not launching some new career though. I’m just the girl in between the boy and the tranny!

What tuneage can we expect on the night?

I just like my soul, funk and R&B grooves, so I’ll fit right in with Kingsley and Munroe in that sweaty back room.

Is there more new music planned? We hear you are heading to Miami Winter Conference next?

Indeed! I’m over there with my crew for my birthday, and Kris is putting on a massive party there, too, so naturally he’s gonna force me onstage like he did at Lovebox! It’s gonna be great though, looking forward to rolling my new beats out in the sunshine. We’ve been seriously busy in the studio… I can’t wait for everyone to hear our stuff.

From Meat to War! What can we look forward to come February 11th?

Well, in my mind it’s like Meat, but with more madness. Last year was cool, but I want to expand musically rather than have one sound all night. I’m pleased I have my boy James Pople back – he’s been off signing record contracts left right and centre! – and I’ve got my No. 1 DJ idol Severino, too! We used to play Shoreditch House together on Bank Holidays and it rocked. He can play anywhere and smash it. The back room’s gonna go from 90’s R&B to dance classics throughout the night.

We understand there are plenty of activities away from the dancefloor, too?

If you’re hot – and the crowd always is – you’ll get invited into a secret booth to play ‘Spin the Bottle’ with Alessandro Palumbo, other hotties and tons of free shots… carnage!

And you’re going to be gassing the gays? Please explain before the Politically Correct police come after you – and us…

Well, I’ve discovered laughing gas. I tried it out at my New Year’s Day party and it was waaaay too much fun, so now I’m having it as a permanent fixture – the Gas Station! There’s something perfect about creating a party where there’s actually a guarantee of people laughing their heads off. A great night out usually involves a lot of laughs after all, especially with Mad Dan gassing everyone.

Who else is involved in the ‘War army’?

I got Alex Collins as my crazy muse/host/rump-shaker/noise-maker. Then there’s my Room Service buddy JJ Clark hosting for the big boys, and Jonathan Bestley running the party. I honestly think this is the best night out I can think of, especially for Valentine’s Weekend. We’re filling the hottest basement in Shoreditch with hot boys ‘til 6am. It ain’t like you won’t pull, know what I mean, you massive slut?! Hahahahaaaaa!

• WAR begins at East Bloc (217 City Road, EC1V 1JN) on Saturday 11th February, 10.30pm-6am.
