Joe & Jake: The White Swan turns 31!

It’s Joe and Jake! They’ve got lovely teeth, and they’ve performed at Eurovision! That’s more than YOU can say (unless you’re Jade Ewen – hi Jade, if you’re reading this!). They also love a knit sweater. We love a knit sweater too.

Now, they’re bringing their perky grins and wholesome lyricism to the White Swan. THEY’LL GET EATEN ALIVE! They won’t, we’re kidding. Don’t worry boys, it’ll all be fine. The White Swan is great, they’ve got a lovely welcoming crowd, and it’s a right laugh on a Saturday night. We got Joe and Jake to take time off from their busy schedule of wearing lovely sweaters and singing lovely songs, to tell us a bit about themselves!

So you guys performed in Eurovision, not many people can say that! How was it?

Jake: Performing in Eurovision was amazing. It’s such a huge competition and we were honoured to be a part of it.

Joe: It was an incredible experience! Such a dream come true to represent the UK and do what we love.

Who’s your favourite Eurovision act of all time?

Jake: My favourite Eurovision act is Loreen with Euphoria! It’s such a great song, and still very popular.

Joe: My favourite is Måns from Sweden, I thought his song and performance were incredible!

We’re based in London! Do you guys come here often?

Jake: I love being down in London! It’s just a massive place filled with so much life.

Joe: I absolutely love London, especially being from where I am in North Wales, I’d say London is my favourite place after working there!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Jake: When I was growing up I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps and become a paramedic, but when I reached my teenage years I realised music was for me!

Joe: Ever since I was a kid, I always knew I wanted to be a performer. Growing up around music in Wales I knew I always wanted to sing.

Were you Eurovision fans before?

Joe: Myself and family have always been Eurovision fans. It’s been something we would always watch together.

WELL, after that wonderfully in-depth interview, all there’s left to say is…go and see them at BJ’s White Swan! On Saturday 27th August. They’ll be performing alongside a stellar lineup of London’s cabaret faves, including Miss Jason, Saucy Sophie, Kelly Wilde, Jason Prince and more. AND it’s a bank holigay, so the atmosphere’s gonna be electric!

Yes, Limehouse institution The White Swan are turning 31! 31 is the age where you have to start THINKING about things isn’t it. When you turn 31, it’s time to, y’know, not SETTLE DOWN exactly, but at least maybe start doing your own laundry, and think about lifting up the seat when you use the toilet. And maybe find yourself a Saudi billionaire to marry. JUST A THOUGHT.

Anyway, the hallowed halls of the White Swan have seen a lot in the last 31 years. If those walls could talk. Well. They can’t. So we’ll never know. But the stories would certainly be colourful. Saucy Sophie’s Amateur Strip Contest alone is enough for years of material.

They’re pulling out all the stops for their birthday celebrations this Saturday, with a host of DJs and performers. They’ve got dance diva and industry legend Kelly Wilde. They’ve got catty cabaret kween Miss Jason. The aforementioned Saucy Sophie, who’s got a dirty mind and an even dirtier mouth. DJs Aaran Bader and Stevie Tee, and more. AND, this year’s UK Eurovision entrants, fresh-faced pin-up boys Joe & Jake!

So there’s no arguing. This night is going to be a sublime, ridiculous, wonderful celebration of everything The White Swan represents; cabaret, camp and Carslberg!

• The White Swan’s Birthday Bash is on 27th August at 556 Commercial Road, E14 7JD. 5pm – 5am. Tickets on sale now at bjswhiteswan.com
