The Nightmare Before Christmas celebrated its 20th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion TheMenWhoFell2Earth are teaming up with East London party magician Ollywood to throw a specially ‘Nightmare’ themed party at Dalston Superstore…
We will be joined on the top floor by top level selectors Jacqui Potato (George & Dragon) and Laurence Del Rey (Popstarz / Douche Bag) bringing the Oogie Boogie all night long with pop, dance and indie belters. The dark heat rising up from the laser basement comes in the shape of TheMenWhoFell2Earth DJs and Prince Of Darkness Ray Noir (Dish) who’ll take you on a sleigh ride through house and disco.
The film has a firm place in the hearts of many oddballs and outsiders who, like Jack Skeleton, struggled to understand the meaning of Christmas. In a time now where stop motion animation is a dying art, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a masterpiece which is still as relevant and innovating today as it was 20 years ago. So skip that dull office party, embrace your dark side and head down to Superstore next Friday 13th December and join in the celebrations!
And here are some other fave movies to get you in the mood…
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS
Only Johnny Depp could still look drop dead gorgeous with that mental hair and scars all over his face, although I wouldn’t let those scissors anywhere near my private parts…
THE GRINCH WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS
Some major hairstyles in this movie. I love to watch it and LOL at Taylor Momsen before she went all rock-slut on us.
HOME ALONE
I tried so many times to recreate those stunts in my own house, my parents were too smart though? “KEVIN!!!!!!!”
THE WIZARD OF OZ
Not necessarily a Christmas film but it’s always on every year and it’s definitely camper than Christmas….
WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
The original version of course – who didn’t want a golden goose which laid golden eggs? Or a pet Oompa Loompa?
HOOK
Another one they play every year. I swear Maggie Smith has been playing an old lady all her life, was that woman ever young? I don’t think so.
SCROOGED
I know there are 10,000 versions of the Dicken’s novel but this one is actually worth watching and Bill Murray is actually funny for once.
ELF
A fairly recent mega hit, Will Farrel is genius as an elf from the North Pole lost in New York it’s also the movie that put Zooey Deschanel on the map.
• The Nightmare Before Christmas is on Friday 13th December at the Dalston Superstore (117 Kingsland Road, E8 2PB), free before 11pm, £5 after.
