We Are The Misfits

Misfits started life in Soho’s Shadow Lounge before heading East to run riot at underground club den East Bloc. The bad-ass bitches that don’t know when to go home share their favourite memories ahead of the club’s first birthday Vogue Ball special…

Mark-Ashley Dupé – Promoter

The time I thought I was Miley Cyrus; the time I fell off the stage while girl wasted; the Halloween Monster Ball dressed as Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a skirt that just covered my balls and stood on stage wondering why everybody was gawping at me; The Xmas Vogue Battle… that was next level;

Oh, and when I found Nicki Graham from Big Brother wasted under the DJ booth whilst Joe McElderry casually took photos!

Matthew Kenny – Host

The time that Darren snapped me laying on the bar with a guy’s head buried in my crotch.

Oh, wait that was the worst moment! What about the time (promoter) Mark tried to give me a run for my money at the monster ball #legsfordaaaaays”

Maximus Crown – DJ

When Mark-Ashley Dupé unexpectedly played one of the tracks I recorded with Nastee McQuaid. The crowd’s reception made me feel like I was bigger than Prince. The song ended and it was back to reality.

Nastee McQuaid – DJ

On the opening night at East Bloc I accidentally unplugged one of the CDJs while ‘Drunk In Love’ was playing, and the whole club sang the entire song, word perfect, for the 2 minutes it took me to sort it out and get the music back on… The vibe was amazing, and it looked like I’d done it on purpose, rather than just being a drunken spazzer.

Oh, plus the memory of Graham Norton showing up and straight bruking out to the afrobeats always makes my smile. I swear he was giving Mark-Ashley the eye…

Anthony Gilét – Door Whore

Being the door whore for Misfits means that sometimes you miss out on all the action downstairs (ahem). So when Halloween came around, hosting downstairs was imperative. Dressed as a zombie tranny nurse I had Dionne Bromfield, the toilet attendant and anybody else attempting to fix my disheveled weave. Before crushing everyone’s toes with six inch stilettos that I couldn’t walk in. Only at Misfits would nobody bat an eyelid… Roll on this year’s Monster Ball!

Darren Orbell – Photographer

The time when I asked Gail Porter if she wanted to come get her pic taken in the photobooth. Then she wouldn’t leave because she thought the booth was for her.

Then having to explain that it’s a photobooth. But she still didn’t get it. So I had to explain in a Scottish accent. #bless

Nuno Domingues – Host

In a brilliant and good way getting kicked out a booth by the fabulousness that is Irish Graham Norton. All the crazy, colourful slightly tipsy convoys in the smokin’ area with the hottest new, to-be-super characters London has to offer whilst watching a colourful miss of everything misfitting that fits so beautifuly into London diversity, is the surrounding aura that Misfits brings to the midweek hump of a Wednesday.

Joy, colour, melody, boomtingz for real.

Kingsley Jordan Wells – DJ

DJing one night I looked up and saw all of my gay family in the club dancing or chilling and a wave of love came over me.

Nick Byam – Door Whore

Getting to greet some of the A-list stars that have walked through the door. Musicians such as Sam Smith, Dionne Bromfield and even a performance from Will Heard. The star guest would have to be Graham Norton who came with his friends and was more than happy to dance the night away with everyone else in the club as well as taking a few selfies with everyone!

James Egan – No. 1 Misfittie

Every single time I tell myself the same lie: I’ll have one drink, a quick dance and then leave to get a good night’s rest. Ridiculous.

I don’t think I’ve left a single Misfits party before lights on, without being totally wasted and exhausted from throwing myself around to some amazing music all night. Once you hit that dancefloor, you don’t leave it until Mark lets you!

• Misfits 1st Birthday ‘Vogue Ball’ is at East Bloc (217 City Road, Shoreditch, EC1V 1JN) on Wednesday 4th June.
