The Canadian pop pixie responsible for the musical monolith that is “Call Me Maybe” (don’t pretend you haven’t held that imaginary Motorola Razr to your mouth in G-A-Y bar after a few jugs of Cheeky Vimto) is back with another earworm single by the name of “I Really Like You”.
Ahead of her performance at G-A-Y this Saturday 6th June, we thought it was appropriate to list the reasons why we really, really, really…. well, you get the idea. We love Carly Rae Jepsen!

Grammys – Those fuddy-duddies at the Grammys know a good hook when they hear one. “Call Me Maybe” collected gongs for both Best Pop Solo Performance and SONG OF THE YEAR in 2013. Proof that even the crabbiest of octogenarian voters aren’t immune to those strings.
Bieber – You know you’re on to a winner when the world’s reigning pop prince gives you his backing. The Biebs is responsible for hooking Carly up with his manager Scooter Braun, and also created his own lipsync video of “Call Me Maybe” alongside then-girlfriend Selena Gomez and Disney starlet Ashley Tisdale in the early days of it’s release. It currently has well over 70 million views on YouTube. You can’t BUY that kind of publicity.
Tom Hanks – The star of more or less every movie made between 1980 and 2002 agreed to do his own lipsync in the video for Carly’s new single “I Really Like You”. Needless to say, it is amazing. Watch out for another cheeky Bieber cameo too and a cheeky secret from Carly!
TUNES – There’s no two ways about it, the girl knows how to craft a perfect pop song. From lyrics that don’t take themselves too seriously, to deliciously sugary sweet production, Carly Rae is a top chef when it comes to creating musical confections that repeat on you in the best way possible. And she’s got tracks for every occasion; dumped your friend with benefits? “Tonight I’m Getting Over You” is your jam. Had a sneaky snog with your mate’s boyfriend? “This Kiss” has got you covered. Carly’s been there, she’s lived it, she’s one of us.
BONUS – she’s been on Broadway. As Cinderella. Opposite FRAN DRESCHER. Picture it: Carly Rae Jepsen in a pumpkin carriage with The Nanny? We can’t even.
• Carly Rae Jepsen is at G-A-Y @ Heaven (Under the Arches, Villiers Street, Charing Cross, WC2N 6NG) on Saturday 6th June, 11pm-5am. £5 entry wristbands available at G-A-Y Bar.
