Here’s the low-down on the charity event that’s been on everyone’s lips.
In the past month, the Australia wildfires have devastated a continent and shocked the world – depriving thousands of homes and resources and providing irrefutable proof that global warming is real. It’s happening right now, and will likely have a profound effect on us all over the coming decade.
It’s really special when those on the scene use their platform as an opportunity to do good, and the Two Brewers, Clapham’s glorious gay mecca, is doing that in GLIMMERING BUCKETLOADS this weekend with their Australia Day Fundraiser.
The marathon drag/cabaret extravaganza will last for TWELVE HOURS…that’s a long time! That’s half the time of a flight to Australia. That’s the amount of time that an episode of Dracula FEELS LIKE. That’s the amount of time it takes Baga Chipz to glue her eyelashes on. That’s…we haven’t got anymore (also JK, love ya Baga).
There’s a stellar lineup too, with some of the most glittering talent from London’s drag scene and from Australia…gorgeous aussie queens Kelly Wilde, Alison Jiear, Shae G’Day, Karla Bar and Sheila Simmonds will be turning it out for down under, with Brit drag legends like Rose Garden, Myra DuBois, Miss Jason, Lady Imelda, Mary Mac and more joinig them on stage.
All proceeds will be going to Wires and NSW Rural Fire Servies. WIRES stands for Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service, and is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organization. They’re helping to treat and rehabilitate the millions of animals whose habitats have been decimated by the fires. The NSW Rural Fire Service is a local fire fighting service that relies heavily on volunteers and donations from the public.
As well as the MANY drag acts, there’ll be a raffle and auction, plus plenty more opportunities to donate. Our friends across the pond have given us so much…now’s the opportunity to give back, and show that, when disaster hits, we’re ALL human no matter our distance, and we’re all here for each other.
