Legendary gay club Trade is back to celebrate its 30th birthday

legendary gay club Trade

“Often copied but never equalled.” Starting life back in 1990, the brainchild of clubbing visionary Laurence Malice, Trade was unlike any club night that had been before. Something which started as an underground gay night evolved into what can only be described as a phenomenon. It would be no overstatement to say Trade revolutionised London’s both gay and straight club scene. The club night that established after-hours clubbing as we know it in the UK is back to celebrate 30 years of mind-bending after-hours clubbing with a series of parties. Kicking things off, Trade has teamed up with A Lost Weekend to curate a take over of Human Traffic Live at Printworks, London.

Trade introduced musical sounds that had never been heard in the UK, establishing itself as a birthplace of techno within the UK’s burgeoning rave scene. Laurence’s creation quickly turned into a global brand, exported to every corner of the world. International DJ’s such as Tall Paul, the late Tony de Vit, Fergie, Sister Bliss, Smokin Jo and Pagano all made their name there.

The clubbing brand enticed hundreds upon thousands of people into its “throbbing vortex” of sound, light, performance, visuals and of course people. Pop stars mingled with builders, city professionals got talking to leggy models, and doctors grinding up on actors. It was a unifying force within the UK club scene.

The night will be making a triumphant return as part of A Lost Weekend’s major four-tiered, multi-sensory immersive experience Human Traffic Live. The event’s award-winning producers have secured the full rights to seminal, British cult-classic film Human Traffic (1999) and are taking it as inspiration. Following a live show, a major party will be in the hands of Trade, taking over the sprawling club space Printworks, London.

An immense evening of astronomical proportion kicking off on Sunday 24th May, Human Traffic Live will feature over £2m worth of production which includes a 100m digitally mapped wall inside the project, manipulated to resurrect the iconic club night. The evening’s line up includes Nicole Moudaber who’ll be taking the helm, the ‘Mood Boss’  bringing her incredible electro beats to the press halls of Printworks. One of Europe’s true techno innovators, Monika Kruse, who has led the way in the scene for over a quarter of a century, will also grace the decks.

Described as ‘a charismatic, multifunctional weapon in the Berlin club life’, Boris is one of the most loved DJs to come out of the city and he will also be taking to the decks, having held residencies at Panorama Bar and Berghain. They’ll be joined by Pagano, originally from Italy but now a proud Londoner. He’s arguably the most successful DJ and Producer to come out of the London gay scene from the noughties. The rest of the fierce rulin’ line-up for this date will be announced.

Human Traffic Live featuring Tradewill be on Sunday, 24th May at Printworks, London SE16 7PJ. Find out more at alostweekend.com
