Alcohol and drug free clubbing, 8 October

drug alcohol free club

With the demand for more sober spaces & events for the queer community, London’s newest alcohol and drug free clubbing sesh is just around the corner… and you’re invited!

Whether you’ve given up booze for good, giving moderating a go or simply taking a booze snooze but still love to party and dance… or if you simply want to see if you can have a good time without being battered…  THIS. EVENT. IS. FOR. YOU.

Bringing you a fresh alcohol and drug free clubbing experience, The House of Happiness is swinging open its doors for the first time to serve banging house tunes brought to you by our resident House DJ Barroness AKA co-founder Emma alongside special guest DJs.

The roof they’ll be raising for our first event is that of the iconic venue ELECTROWERKZ – one of London’s coolest, queerest, most inclusive and alternative venues. They’ll be working with them to add sober inclusion to their long list of cracking events!

What makes The House of Happiness different from other sober events?

Firstly, The House of Happiness is a queer led and delivered venture. And whilst not exclusively a queer event, it is created for ALL with an interest in having a cracking alcohol-free good time – those from the sober and/or LGBTQ+ communities, sober curious or just taking a break from the booze. We want to create a space where our guests are free to be themselves; to dance, express and live their best lives!

“Everyone is welcome but we have no tolerence for any -phobias, -isms or other similar bullshit” says co-founder and The House of Happiness’ Events Manager, Neil Hudson-Basing. “Truly inclusive queer spaces are special but rare. As are sober spaces. We want to combine both”.

That brings us onto what else is different about it. Whilst many of the more established sober events are centred around either recovery or wellbeing, at The House of Happiness, you can expect an experience that is firmly focused on the fun, house music, and the people. As well as a decent offering of alcohol-free drinks!

“That’s not to say that those events are not fun in themselves… it’s just that other people are already doing them brilliantly and we’re not experts in those areas! My first sober rave was at Morning Gloryville one Saturday morning” explains co-founder Jayney Flatman. “As someone who spent a lot of time on the Vauxhall clubbing scene, it felt magical to discover all the great feelings I had enjoyed from raving were still there. I realised that morning that the music, the lights, the people and the vibe was all I had ever needed after all. And I’m so excited about The House of Happiness being part of the thriving alcohol free community – and as an expert in partying, this is something I can help to bring to an alcohol free audience!”.

With more and more sober events popping up around the country, is there a need for another one?

“Yes! The more sober events the merrier!” says Emma. “We can all sit alongside each other and support each other. We’ve found that everyone has been so supportive of us as a new venture, especially Club Soda who have gone from being a Facebook group to a global mindful drinking movement having helped tens of thousands of people discover a better life by moderating or quitting drinking. They were certainly a part of my journey so if you’re thinking about taking a break from booze, check them out!”

Alcohol and drug free clubbing events

Whether it’s sober clubbing being delivered by the likes of Morning Gloryville, Rise & Shine, DryWave events or other alcohol free social events being organised by groups including Queers Without Beers, Sober & Social or the London LGBTQ+ Community Centre, there are alcohol free events, communities and activities for everyone.

The House of Happiness is delighted to be part of the shift in society towards a healthier attitude to drinking and partying – but don’t expect that to mean less fun! It might be daytime clubbing but you can still expect a buzzing time, the highs without the lows, strobe lights, flamboyant outfits, dancers & more!
