Kings Cross Steelers take the cup at the UK’s biggest-ever queer rugby tournament.

The central theme of the tournament was ‘One Love’. The IGR Union Cup 2023 was the first time the European LGBTQ+ rugby community and allies have come together in four years, having been postponed from 2021 due to COVID. Birmingham is the ninth host city of the tournament.

After a fantastic weekend of inclusive sport that saw 46 LGBTQ+ rugby teams and 1400 players from more than 18 countries competing against each other, it was London’s Kings Cross Steelers that took home the win at the Birmingham Perry Bar stadium.

The Tournament welcomed players from across the globe in the spirit of inclusion, integrity, friendship, and support, which started at a packed opening ceremony at Birmingham Town Hall on Thursday evening ahead of match play on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the festival, which is considered Europe’s premier inclusive rugby tournament.
