Queer comedy sci-fi SPACE DADDY is due to shoot in a few weeks, and the team have just launched a crowdfunder to help cover the remaining production costs. They’re calling on the kindness of friends and strangers to help get this fantastically wild ride of a film over the line…can you help?

Space Daddy is an absurd queer comedy that follows the story of a young gay guy named Andy, who, having been MIA for a week, is meeting up with his best friend Ruby. We follow along as he spills the tea on the reason for his disappearance- a super weird hook up he had with a mysterious stranger.  She is as captivated as we are by Andy’s riotous recollection which turns out to be…erm…completely out of this world.

Told as a narrative flashback, Space Daddy is a funny and outrageous tale which, despite its cosmic connotations, is universally relatable. We’ve all made decisions we should probably be embarrassed of – but actually can’t wait to tell our friends about.

Space Daddy invites us to laugh at the destructive side of ourselves we often can’t help but be seduced by. It’s a film about being young, queer and free to make mistakes. And about celebrating the friends who are along for the ride with us.

The film is written by Joe Jordan, and will be the directorial debut of Stephen Carruthers. With a stellar cast led by rising star Noah Thomas (Everything Now, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) and Funso Foluso- Henry and a top level crew in place, it’s sure to be a hit.

It represents a gear change for these young filmmakers, who are taking the bold step into creating their own work. Making films is not cheap or easy, and so far they have secured a lot of in kind support and self funded some elements of production. But they need that final push to raise the remaining £2500 and make their dreams a reality.

Carruthers says:

‘Me and Joe have been working so hard around our day to day lives for over a year to get to the point we’re at today, and so it’s very exciting to be this close to finally bringing Space Daddy to life. I would really like this film to go to festivals around the world but I can’t do it without a little bit of help from you, so please donate and share with anyone you can! If you like watching queer people on your screen and laughing, then please consider supporting us!’

The crowdfunder is live here: https://greenlit.com/project/space-daddy and has some great rewards for those who donate. Fancy bagging yourself a VIP invite to the screening or an executive producer credit? Dig deep!

The team sends their heartfelt thanks in advance to all you patrons of the gay arts out there.
