As the country experiences rioting, many people are feeling vulnerable and in danger, they are scared. In response to the current crisis, The Outside Project is organising London LGBTIQ+ Mutual Aid Assembly Points.
What are London LGBTIQ+ Mutual Aid Assembly Points?
The Outside Project want to know if you are able to provide calming company for LGBTIQ+ people who are seeking asylum if an emergency were to arise in your local area, either at your home or office accommodation.
This could be for up to several hours until it is safe to return to their accommodation or move to another area.
You are asked to complete a short form if you are able to offer such much needed calming company in a safe space in the event of an emergency.
We hope that there will be no riots in London but it is reassuring to know for vulnerable LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers that there is access to safe spaces if the worst were to happen.
An Outside Project team member will call you to confirm your availability. They will make sure that your information is kept secure and will only share it in case of an emergency and with the number of people you have specified in your responses. Your information will only be shared with members of the LGBTIQ+ Centre or a local service that supports LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum and with whom they have closely worked since their founding.
What is The Outside Project?
The Outside Project is a shelter, center, and domestic abuse refuge specifically designed for the LGBTIQ+ community. It aims to provide housing and safe spaces tailored to the unique identities within the community. Additionally, it offers professional and peer-led support for those in crisis, advocates for their rights within broader systems and services, promotes social health and sobriety, and works to strengthen support for the LGBTIQ+ community by building relationships with other service providers. Lastly, it strives to educate others about the distinct and intricate needs of LGBTIQ+ individuals.
