Writer-directors Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher’s Night Stage is a dark erotic thriller that channels Paul Schrader and Brian De Palma at their most lurid.
Matias needs a break. Rafael needs discretion. What they share is a compulsion for public sex that grows more dangerous as Rafael leverages his political power to boost Matias’s career.
In their erotic thriller an actor and a politician’s casual encounter becomes an intoxicating addiction. Matias is an ambitious actor and Rafael is a successful politician. They begin a secret affair and discover a shared fetish for having sex in public places.
As both pursue their dreams of greater fame and recognition they become increasingly addicted to the thrill of risk, seeking out more dangerous encounters that threaten to expose their relationship and destroy everything they’ve worked for. Both are unable to resist the compulsion even as the stakes grow higher. Their compulsion for public sex grows ever more dangerous as Rafael leverages his political power to boost Matias’s career.
Night Stage had it’s world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival last year, followed by BFI Flare where it was the closing night film.
Filipe and Marcio are back in the UK to talk more about their latest film and have three Q&A screenings lined up along with one of The Rio’s famous naturist screenings – for those who prefer their cinema to be a more “free”.
