Conversion Therapy: A queer punk band from far above the artic circle

Conversion Therapy is a queer punk band from far above the arctic circle in Norway. 

The band members are from the queer community and the indigenous Sami population from the far north of Norway. Their music represents not only a fusion of genres but also of culture. They are hoping to show the diversity of Northern Norway and break the boundaries of what the band called “the traditionally macho and, unfortunately, not very inclusive Sami culture.”

Their debut EP, Long Nights, is a collection of 6 Alternative, genre-hopping songs. The track “Slave” has a traditional pop punk sound and a tongue-in-cheek, BDSM-inspired theme. “Poison” and “Loser” are tracks with a more modern Emo Trap punk infusion. “Bleeding Oxygen” and “My Worlds Collide” are Lofi-inspired ballads. The culmination of these influences is found in the title track, “Long Nights”.

The band told QX that they are inspired by “a range of punk and alternative artists, from Green Day, NOFX, Magnolia Park and Modern Baseball to Lil Peep, POORSTACY, nothing, nowhere, and Powerful.”
