CALLING ALL BEARS: Pagano will be playing at XXL London Pride on Saturday 25th June, so put on your dancing pelts! Last week we gave you the lowdown on why he’s basically one of the most successful LGBT DJ’s ever. Now we’ve got some words direct from the man himself about what it takes to make a great party.

MUSIC/DJs:

After my recent DJ gig on the terrace of Amnesia in Ibiza for the summer opening of Matinèe I decided to remain on the island a few extra days to go to the opening of Carl Cox’ party at Space. I was there with 3 other gay friends. It was a nearly 99% straight night. Yet we all had one of the best clubbing experience of our lives. Reason? An amazing yet uplifting DJ set by Mr Cox that reminded me of the heyday of Trade at Turnmills. For me it is and will always be all about the music.

SEX:

For some music is still the most important ingredient, for others, however, it seems that eye candy and sex are the only reasons to go out. Shallow sluts!

HEDONISM:

Let’s face it, in every single club in the world people get intoxicated one way or the other. In the words of The Shamen: if “Ebeneezer Goode” the party will be a striking success!

CROWD:

After DJing for more than two decades at clubs all around the world, I can say without a doubt that the crowd and its attitude are extremely important. XXL’s tag line “one club fits all” says it all about the club mission and I couldn’t agree more. It reminds me of one of my favourite gigs in the world, which is La Demence is Brussels. The mix of people makes sure everybody leaves their attitude at the door. So in a club where fashionistas party alongside men in leather, where bears and twinks, people from all backgrounds and nationalities come together for a gay rave, you can feel in the air that everybody is friendly and up for a good time.

CLUB OWNER/PROMOTERS:

After many years dealing with all sorts of employers I strongly believe each event reflects the energy, passion and reasons why a promoter/club owner puts on a party. If they are in only for the money or their ego, then the events are dry and boring as a grandma’s vagina. If they work in the industry because of creativity, love for music and clubbing, or they simply are a people person, then the events reflect their energy in a positive and infectious way.

• Don’t miss Pagano’s set, between 2am-6am, on Saturday 25th June for XXL London Pride at Pulse (1 Invicta Plaza, South Bank, SE1 9UF), 9pm-9am. £9 members, £16 guests.
