For some reason, everybody was emailing us today (Friday!) to invite Team QX to a show or a party that would have had our entire diary full from this Saturday to next. And as much as we love a party, we also like a bit of notice. We need at least a week to decide on the outfit!
One such lovely honey bun was Rob from One More Time. The party is on this Saturday at VFD. We made our apologies because we were busy (with another fab party) and, not wanting to let him down, promised his party a mention in our fabulous organ. At the end of the day that’s what we’re like and that’s what we do, parties!
Rob told us,
“I started the night in Feb 2020 (bad timing) and have picked it up when the clubs re-opened in Sept last year, with VFD being happy to host it. The night came about from being someone who was an adolescent in the late 90s/ early 00s and wanted there to be a retro club night that plays all those sadly forgotten songs.”
Each party celebrates a bygone year. They’ve done 1998, 1999 and 2001. Logically it’s now the turn of 2002 to get the One More Time treatment. That was the year Pop Idol was all over the charts – Will Young, Gareth Gates, Rik Waller, Darius, Jessica Garlick. Liberty X were back and The Cheeky Girls and Girls Aloud emerged. Grabbing names from a bag we have – Enrique Iglesias, Pink, Sugababes, A1, Atomic Kitten …
While they know their music, One More Time is a night not to be taken too seriously as the focus is on having a lot of fun. From A lister to B lister to flopster, expect all the pop and dance hits, and not so hits of 2002!
