STAR OF THE EAST

Owners Dan Beaumont and Mikki Most celebrate three years of Dalston Superstore as one of East London’s shining beacons of truly alternative and deftly edgy underground club nights. Just some of its army of regular DJs and divas speak out…

DAN BEAUMONT

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

Because we care about music, food and drink more than you could possibly imagine!

What’s your favourite ’Superstore memory?

Our opening night is something I will never forget. Also the Lovebox after parties have been legendary, and all the amazing DJs who have played over the years. In all honesty all the amazingness has blurred into a 3 year long memory of insanely good music, wonderful friends and tranny furiosity!

HANNAH HOLLAND

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

It has true artistic genuine passion behind it, giving a home to the most creative people in London to party, show art, perform, DJ, and eat!

What’s your favourite ’Superstore memory?

Many, many! The Paris Acid Ball lazer pit action is always very special. The Lovebox afterparty – felt like the end of time’s birthday, everyone was dancing on a table with trannies crowd surfing.

SEVERINO

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

I love DS cause it’s run by two lovely chaps, and all the staff and security are friendly and ready to party. A cute energy!

What’s your favourite ’Superstore memory?

So many favourite DJs played for my party – Severino & Friends: Terry Farley, Raf from the 2 Bears, House of Spank from NYC. Maybe my favourite gig was playing upstairs for Optimo’s night, it was mental. Such a crazy vibe.

KRIS DI ANGELIS

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

Because it’s one of the very few places that mixes the best DJs in the world with the gays. It’s absolutely unrivalled in its programming. In a country where ‘gay’ still means ‘naff’, ’Superstore is proof of the exact opposite, without being all self-conscious about it. I come away from Delirium feeling very lucky to be involved. Oh, and I can always make them give me shots if I start moaning!

What’s your favourite ’Superstore memory?

A certain DJ informing me that he’d rounded up enough boys for us to have an orgy after the club, but that we couldn’t do it at his place as his boyfriend was home. I looked around and realised every single hot boy there was waiting for me to give an answer about my flat’s availability! We were fucking surrounded by expectant wide eyes and clear skin! All I’m going to say is that’s the memory that springs to mind.

JONNY WOO

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

Dalston Superstore is now officially HQ of East London’s gay scene and so much more. Where it landed others have followed. This is the future of the London queer scene.

 ’Superstore memory?

The Royal Wedding was hilarious when Ma Butcher and myself hosted the official Hen Party… Kate didn’t receive the invite, unfortunately, which was for the best as I got personal with a Wills lookalike stripper on the bar!

THE LOVELY JONJO

Why do you love Dalston Superstore?

I love DS for that sentimental gushy “cheers” feeling going into a well run bar/club owned by mates. You always get a massive warm welcome and know the music will always be on top form.

What’s your favourite ’Superstore memory?

Having Hot Boy Dancing Spot do the very dusty workmen opening party in hard hats and overalls, of course, playing Men At Work. Also hosting the bar at the Optimo parties, what I can remember! Plus, Thursday nights, great to have proper fun lesbian nights in London again such as Jerk and Twat Boutique.

• Dalston Superstore’s 3rd Birthday is at 117 Kingsland Highy Street, E8 2PB on Saturday 28th April, 9pm-5am.
