14/04/12: Going to War for a second time in the space two months was never going to be easy. For a start, we had just licked our wounds and recovered from the onslaught that was Easter.
Was anybody going to be at War the week after a four-day weekend bender? The answer was a resolute, ‘yes’. It seems the world and its drag-mother rallied to the battle cry of promoter/DJ/remixer Kris Di Angelis.
Now, the battle cry of most gays in clubland is something akin to a squawking buzzard at the best of times, but when it comes to rallying an army of hot-as-hell clubbers and dance floor fanatics, from Mz Di Angelis it’s practically a clarion call that most other promoters would sell their pet Chihuahua for.
East Bloc’s two dance floors and its warren of cubby holes and hideaways were oozing some of the most fit-as-fuck boys and blokes this lustful slut has ever seen in one space, in what must have been one of the club’s craziest nights to date.
On the decks and Joshyou Are kicked-off proceedings with the energy of say, four Hiroshimas, before Severino funked things right up, getting us to shake our tushes out by going all ballistic on us with his beats. Next door and guest DJ Jodie Harsh was werqing the room somewhat ruthlessly with smash after smash of a finely chosen rap bitches set.
But Kris’ secret weapon of the night came in the form of Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears who surprised us all with a guest set. Now, when these celeb guest DJs turn up, we’re usually used to them being, well, crap, however Jake turned out a truly banging set that left us duly impressed. Come sunrise and with the dance floor still rammed at 6am, War had claimed a resounding clubland victory.
