The Night Time Industries Association

The NTIA, or Night Time Industries Association, is exactly what it sounds like: A collective initiative forging ties in one of the UK’s most lucrative industries – nightlife!

At QX we’re obviously big advocates not only of London’s world-famous, uniquely varied nightlife scene, but the whole of the UK’s. As a nation, we have one of the most significant and widespread clubbing and after-hours cultures, with London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol leading the charge in revolutionary and inventive nights.

However as we all know, our days of dancing ‘til dawn and joyful glowstick hedonism could be numbered. Nearly half of the UK’s nightclubs have closed in the last ten years, with more under threat seemingly every month. In particular, gay venues have fallen prey to skyrocketing rents, and development from corporate juggernauts. It started with the demolishing of the beloved Astoria, and gathered momentum from there.
The NTIA has created a campaign to prevent things like this from happening again. It’s called Nightlife Matters, and aims to emphasise the importance of nightlife, and bring it into the consciences of the men sitting in offices who make decisions without actually having been to a nightclub in their lives.
Now, three venues from the three points of the London gay scene triangle are joining forces with the NTIA to prevent more closures from happening. Ku Group in Soho; Orange Group in Vauxhall; and Dalston Superstore in East London. They’ll work with the lovely people at the NTIA to keep the city’s nightlife as colourful and bustling as ever, and to help preserve both their own venues, and other gay venues around the city.

“Clubs are incredibly important. This is where the culture has thrived and grown.”

 Seth Troxler

“We’re living in a time where the government likes to create media sensations around one topic or another. It’s not about them trying to save lives or change culture, it’s about who can keep themselves in the spotlight for the longest. Decisions are being made by people who are too old or too out of touch with what’s happening in the modern world. And it’s not just in the UK, it’s part of a global problem.”
