Exilio Latinx Pride London is a project created by London’s longest running LGBTQ+ Latin club Night, Exilio London. The Latin club night was established in 1996 by Colombian born Gloria Lizcano.

The club has been taking part in Pride in London for over 15 years and has also participated in Brighton Pride, UK Black Pride, and is soon to take part in the Notting Hill Carnival, Hackney Carnival and Manchester Pride.

The project focusses on a float that acts as the centre point for the Latinx LGBTQ+ community at Pride in London. The float acts as a visible focus of unity and equality for the community, and this year it will be intergenerational too, focusing on the future and the young Latinx people of London. They really want to celebrate their rebirth as a community after being locked away for over 2 years!

In the past, Exilio supported LGBTQ+ Latin visibility at Pride by putting on a float which they funded themselves. Due to the pandemic this year Exilio is asking for your support as they had no funding during the pandemic, and so this year Exilio is unable to give their annual gift to the community.

Gloria Lizcano told QX, “Our community is not well known and this amazing project will leave a foot print of Latinx Pride in London. It is a legacy that I want to leave for the Latinx community of London and every one to enjoy.”

As representatives of the Latinx LGBTQ+ community Exilio Latinx Pride will parade through London bedecked in the most vibrant of carnival decorations. Behind the float they will have pre-hispanic giant puppets and butterflies accompanied by Colombian traditional dancers “SOMOS CHIBCHAS”, Brazilian drummers  “BAQUE DE AXÉ” and a London based band playing traditional Maracatu Carnival percussion.

On the decks Exilio‘s resident DJ and international sensation DJ G, one of London’s top female DJs, will be playing the best Latin hits. Performing on the Exilio float will be Roce 40 the Latin owned record label bringing Carnaval Bangers Bora Bora & Tiki Taka songs featuring P Man, Guala, Don Jaga, La Famosa & Fly. Alongside them they also have London’s Latin superstar Sachellys. Inspired by the sounds of salsa legends they’ll be mixing it with a splash of R&B. Sachellys created her own sound as a Colombian, straight outta London!

The theme for the Latinx parade is MARIPOSAS (Butterflies). A display of vibrant colours will make Latinx Pride one of the most captivating of floats.
