Lorna Gee: Award winning music artist
Since the 1980s, Gee has released several hit singles, including ‘Three Weeks Gone—Mi Giro’, ‘Stop Chat’, ‘Singalong’, and ‘Don’t go crazy’.
In 1985, her heartfelt song ‘Gotta Find a Way’ topped the Reggae charts for six weeks, earning her two BBC Radio London Reggae Awards for Best Female Artist in 1985 and 1986. Recently, she has continued her success by winning the Global Rhodium Actor Screen and Stage Award in 2022. Lorna won the Chaaawaaa Radio Award for Female Legend of the Year in 2023.
‘Closet’ is Lorna Gee’s latest single from her upcoming greatest hits album which is set to be released next year by Mad Professor’s Records, her longtime collaborators.
A passion for global justice
Lorna is well-respected by her musical peers. She performed alongside Madness, Paul Weller and Junior Giscombe on the Red Wedge tour, a prominent 1986 Labour Party voting drive. Lorna’s passion for global justice through politics again became apparent at the 1988 AAA (Artists Against Apartheid) concert. She appeared there with Sade, Gil Scott-Heron, Boy George, Sting and Maxi Priest.
A career in acting
This is Gee’s first official single since 1996. It follows the success of her recent, self-penned, one-woman theatre show, The Legends of Them. The show was produced by Hackney Showroom. For it, she received multiple 5-star reviews. Lorna won the Offie Award for Best Performer in an Off West End production in 2024.
In the millennium, Lorna returned to her first love, acting. She spent three years at one of the country’s top drama schools, Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating at 40. Her acting career has been highly successful to date.
Since graduating, Lorna has appeared alongside Heath Ledger and Christian Bale in Dark Knight, the Batman Movie. She has also been seen in numerous popular TV series, including Silent Witness, Strike, Ghosts, Death in Paradise, Eastenders, Small Axe, Holby City, Black Cake, Outlander, Duchess, and more recently, Netflix’s number one global hit series, Supacell, plus many more.
