Mawaan Rizwan will play the role of the Narrator in The Rocky Horror Show for a limited two-week run from 6 – 20 September at London’s Dominion Theatre as part of a new nine-month UK tour. 

Who is Mawaan Rizwan?

Mawaan Rizwan is a comedian, actor, and writer who found fame through his successful YouTube channel, which quickly led to various TV roles in Definitely Not Newsround (CBBC) and Mega Awesome Super Hacks (Disney XD). No stranger to the comedy circuit, Mawaan performed at the Comedy Club Leicester Square and for two consecutive years at the Edinburgh Festival to rave reviews. However, it wasn’t long before Mawaan was back on our screens in Two Weeks to Live (Sky One), Murdered By My Father (BBC Three), and was recognized as a writer on Sex Education. It was in 2023 that Mawaan received a BAFTA award for Juice (BBC Three), a surreal comedy series he starred in, wrote and co-produced.

Who’s in the cast of Rocky Horror Show?

An exceptional cast—led by singing superstar Jason Donovan—will bring their biggest party to the West End. Brad will be played by Connor Carson, Janet by Lauren Chia, Riff Raff by Job Greuter, and Magenta / Usherette by Natasha Hoeberigs. Columbia will be played by Jayme-Lee Zanoncelli, Rocky by Morgan Jackson, and Eddie / Dr Scott by Edward Bullingham. 

The Rocky Horror Show defies space and time as it continues to captivate audiences worldwide, featuring all the outrageous characters and infectious energy that has made the show a global phenomenon for over five decades. The show, directed by Christopher Luscombe, features all the smash hit musical numbers which have made Rocky Horror Show such a massive success for 50 years and counting. They include ‘Sweet Transvestite’, ‘Dammit Janet’, ‘Science Fiction/Double Feature’, and the timeless floor-filler, ‘Time Warp’.

What is the story of Rocky Horror about?

The show follows Brad and fiancée Janet, two squeaky clean college kids. When their car breaks down outside his house while they are on their way to visit their favourite college professor, they meet Dr Frank’n’Furter. It’s an adventure they’ll never forget, filled with fun, frolics, fabulous outfits, and timeless songs. The Rocky Horror Show is a guaranteed party, famously combining science fiction, horror, comedy, and music while encouraging audience participation—in other words, dressing up in the most outrageous drag. 

What is the history of the show?

The Rocky Horror Show first premiered in 1973 at the Royal Court’s Theatre Upstairs, with an audience of only 63. An immediate success, it transferred to the Chelsea Classic Cinema. It then ran at the Kings Road Theatre from 1973 to 1979 and on to the Comedy Theatre in the West End from 1979 to 80.

The Rocky Horror Show has been seen by over thirty million people in over thirty countries, in 20 languages, and it continues to delight audiences on its sell-out tour. 

In 1975, the show was adapted into the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It took over $135 million at the Box Office. Still shown in cinemas worldwide, it is the longest-running theatrical release in cinema history. 

Over the past 50 years, many huge stars have appeared in the Rocky Horror Show. The list includes Russell Crowe, Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Jerry Springer, Jason Donovan, and Meatloaf. 

But be warned, this Rocky Horror Show has rude parts!
