On Saturday, July 5th, from 4pm to 1am, SHD (Sunday Happy Day) is teaming up with Century Club to celebrate Pride in London in style with an unforgettable Pride Carnival Party. This will be a spectacular day-to-night celebration at one of Soho’s most exclusive venues, featuring soulful rhythms, outrageous cabaret performances, and an atmosphere filled with love. We spoke with one of the promoters, the fabulous Yveelicious to find out more.
Hello Yveelicious. Lovely to meet you. When did you first start promoting Sunday Happy Day?
Sunday Happy Day (SHD) began in June 2006. We had our first event in St Katherine’s Dock, a great venue with a stunning outdoor area.
What was the inspiration behind Sunday Happy Day?
SHD was created because I wanted somewhere for my friends, who come from a variety of backgrounds, to meet. I wanted the people who knew me to know each other, and I thought that dance floor culture was the best way to unite us all! We also wanted to have our allies/family attend an LBGTQI+ run party. My family have been regular attendees. They now understand my lifestyle and have met my friends.
How would you describe the crowd to someone who hasn’t been to a Sunday Happy Day party before?
We are a very mixed crowd with a range of ages from 25 to 60+. It’s super friendly and has done a lot to integrate the queer clubbing community! It is a club night that many are happy to come along to on their own. I think that is because the music and dancing unify us.
What makes The Century Club such a special Pride Carnival Party venue?
Century Club was established in 2001 as a members club for creatives and innovators. It embodies collaborative work. They have a long history of queer members, and the venue is fabulous. You will be in for an up-market treat. The roof terrace is absolutely amazing. It also has a beautiful outdoor smoking area with seating and heating. What more could you ask for at Pride?
You have a great DJ lineup. Tell us about the DJs who will be playing and their music genres
We have an incredible DJ lineup that includes DJ Aquila, Ben Jamie, Sugabear, Alex Eugenio, AfroChick, and Ruby Savage. They’ll play Soulful House, Disco, Classic House, and Old Skool R&B.
What will add to the Pride Carnival Party excitement?
We will have a burlesque dancer on the night. Donna Poderosa will samba her way into your heart. The Queen of the Trancefloor will transport you to a magical tropical dimension where the cocktails are intoxicating, and the party never stops. She will seduce you, She will amuse you, she will enchant you, she will leave your jaw on the floor.
The dress code is Smart Casual.
